Evaluation of alternative sugar beet pulp refining strategies for efficient pectin extraction and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) production

I would like to share my first publication entitled “Evaluation of alternative sugar beet pulp refining strategies for efficient pectin extraction and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) production” published on Biochemical Engineering Journal (I.F. 3.9) as a part of the special issue “Biorefineries for a changing world”.

The present publication is a part of my PhD research concern the valorisation of sugar beet pulp targeting pectin extraction and biopolymers production. Sugar beet pulp can be effectively re-introduced into the food industry via an effective biorefinery development by the separation and production of sustainable packaging materials.

I would like to thank the co-authors Olga Vittou, Olga Psaki, Katiana Filippi, Eri Tsouko, Antiopi Vardaxi and Stergios Pispas, the corresponding author Eleni Stylianou as well as my supervisor Apostolis Koutinas.

I would also like acknowledge financial support of the project Beet2Bioref Research-Create-Innovate, funded by the Operational Programme “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation” (NSRF 2014-2020) and co-financed by Greece and the European Union.
